We are proud to be able to provide British Canoeing courses for those that are looking to progress their personal skill level.

We run these courses when it is suitable for the first person booking, and will advertise if there are additional spaces via our social media. For groups, we offer discounts based on the number of places at the provisional booking stage. If you have a large group from one area, we could even come to you to deliver the course.



FSRT

The Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) is the first stage of British Canoeing safety courses.

This course is mainly practical and is completed in different craft to give you a wide-ranging knowledge of safety, so you should be competent in paddling canoe, kayak and SUP.

The main focuses of this course are:

Keeping you and others safe on the water

Focus on practical solutions

Rescuing yourself and others that end up in the water

Safe paddling principles

Duration – 8 hours 

Cost – £80 per BC member (£85 non-member)

Ratio – 1:6 max (2 min)

FSRT SUP SPECIFIC

This variation of the Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) has been adapted by YOFI Paddlesports and approved by British Canoeing. 

This course is mainly practical and completed solely on SUPs for the growing number of paddlers who only SUP. It does include rescues from SUP to other craft, to ensure as paddlers everyone can aid in any situation that may occur. 

The main focuses of this course are:

Keeping you and others safe on the water

Focus on practical solutions

Rescuing yourself and others that end up in the water

Safe paddling principles

Duration – 8 hours 

Cost – £80 per BC member (£85 non-member)

SUP SW AWARD

The SUP Sheltered Water Award will provide you with the knowledge to plan and paddle a safe, enjoyable SUP trip.

Sheltered Water is classed as ungraded sections of slow moving rivers where the group could paddle upstream against the flow, areas of open water (e.g. lakes and lochs) where the paddlers are no more than 200 metres offshore and the wind strength does not exceed Beaufort force 3.

We deliver this award on a full day journey from Ross-on-Wye to Symonds Yat West, with a lunch stop at Kerne Bridge.

WWSUP AWARD

The SUP White Water Award will progress your skills on a SUP and introduce the skills required to have an enjoyable and safe day out on white water. This will be on rivers up to grade 2.

We mainly use the rapid at Symonds Yat, but this venue may change due to paddler ability or weather conditions.

CANOE AWARD

Your Canoe Award endorses your skill, judgement and decision making when journeying in a Canoe. It is tailored to each paddler and will give you the ability to plan and undertake safe journeys. By the end of the award, you will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys in winds up to force 3 and grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines.
